 Abstract:  The Cleveland Bar Association was founded in 1873 in Cleveland, Ohio, to establish and enforce standards of conduct for members of the legal profession and to promote legal and judicial reform. The Cleveland Bar Association was instrumental in the formation of the Ohio State and American Bar Associations. The collection consists of an entry form for the Right to Counsel Award and includes statements, correspondence and newspaper clippings explaining the Bar's action in defending nine indigent communist defendants in the Ohio Smith Act trial in 1956.
